Have you enjoyed any beautiful flowers this week that you’d like to save?

Summer’s flowers are best for preserving but with care a winter bouquet can be saved also!

The most successful technique we’ve found is using Silica Gel. You can buy it on amazon or at a local craft store. It’s a moisture absorbing powder that dries the flower without altering the vibrant color. (It’s the same product as the “anti-moisture” packets found in packaged foods.)

There are many directions online you can try but the simplest method we’ve used is pouring some silica gel into a clean & dry coffee can. Nestle the flower into the silica and then pour a bit more in so the bloom is fully covered and seal the can.

Leave this for several days and you will have a perfectly preserved flower that looks just as fresh as it did when you put it in the silica container.

With a little practice, you’ll be ready to use silica gel to dry lavender sprigs and peonies from Lambs Tales Farm in just a few months when Summer comes!

When rain keeps you indoors, why not expand your cooking repertoire?

A rack of lamb makes an impressive and delicious meal.

If you happened to stockpile some dried or frozen sour cherries last summer, they make a perfect sauce for drizzling of the lamb. Other dried or frozen fruits such as blueberries or prunes would be good too!

If you’re cooking for one, feel free to cut the rack down and make a savory meal with quinoa or millet pilaf for one meal and a sweet fruit sauce with roasted root veggies for a completely different meal.

Lamb is delicious over warmed arugula or rice also. Jasmine or Basmati rice bring their own flavors to the dish.

Send us your best rack of lamb recipes! We’d love to know your favorite flavor combinations for enjoying delicious lamb.

We hope you all are staying dry!
