Navajo-Churro and Jacob Sheep
The American Livestock Breeds Conservancy (ALBC) considers both Navajo-Churro and Jacob sheep as rare breeds.
Currently, we work with only one local breeder who is both mentor, teacher, and friend. All lambs come with registration paperwork.
We have several sheep available at this time.
Navajo-Churro provide the perfect weaving wool which is very strong, beautiful and available in a wide variety of natural colors. They also provide a lean, flavorful meat, beautiful pelts, and are considered a dairy breed. If you make your own cheese, this would be a nice addition to your flock!
Jacob Sheep have a medium fine, open fleece and no outer coat which makes it exceptional for hand-spinning. They are slighter built and provide leaner meat. They lamb well and are attentive moms or we could say “mums” as Jacob ewes are a popular addition to British flocks!
Several other features: These sheep are very independent, intelligent animals with a fascinating history and a very special heritage. They are very hardy and disease resistant. The smaller size of this breed means they eat less food and have higher per acre stocking rates than many other commercial breeds. The ewes have a tendency to twin, have relatively few lambing problems and are excellent attentive Moms.
